Ranking Movies with the Elo Rating System
Rating and ranking every film is no easy task, but it's not a unique challenge. The Elo rating system is a proven method for ranking competitors in many fields, from chess to tennis, and FilmElo applies it to cinema.
FilmElo is currently in a private beta, and we are inviting select users to help shape and test the platform to make it a useful destination for movie lovers.

A Different Approach to Ranking Films
FilmElo ranks movies using the Elo rating system, the same proven method behind chess and countless competitive sports.
Instead of asking audiences for potentially arbitrary ratings, FilmElo uses head-to-head matchups to derive each film's true ranking.
The system continuously updates each film's ranking based on the outcomes of these comparisons, and a film's rating becomes more accurate as more data is collected.
The result is a living, self-correcting ranking that reflects what audiences genuinely love.
What's with the private beta?
FilmElo is new, and we want to be sure it works properly before it opens to everyone. So we're letting people in a few at a time, which gives us room to fix things as they turn up.
Once you're in, you'll mark the films you've seen and then start choosing between pairs of them. Beyond that, look around as much as you like. If something breaks, looks wrong or just confuses you, tell us. There's a contact link at the bottom of every page.
When FilmElo opens to the public, your account and every vote you've cast carry over.
